The Christofle company was founded in 1830 by Charles Christofle (1805-1863). Stemming from a family of industrialists specialized in the work of precious metal, the latter is 15-years-old when he becomes the apprentice of his brother-in-law Hugues Calmette, a manufacturer of “jewels of province.”
Succeeding King Louis Philippe, Emperor Napoleon III orders, from 1851, all the official dinner services of the Empire from Christofle.
